Together with the small villages of S. Cristina and Selva, the village of Ortisei is located in Val Gardena in South Tyrol. Ortisei became famous for its artistic wood carvings, which have been made here for generations by families of experienced woodcarvers.
Ortisei is located in the heart of Val Gardena and is surrounded by numerous mountains which make it the ideal starting point for hikes and ski tours. The Seceda, Monte Pic and the Raschötz are just some of the impressive heights that dominate the magnificent panorama of Ortisei. The urban landscape of Ortisei is dominated by traditional hotels and pretty residential buildings from the turn of the century. Since the 19th century, tourism has been the most important economic sector in the country. The pedestrian precinct of Ortisei, which is described by many as the most beautiful in the Dolomites, connects the parish church dedicated to S. Ulrico with the church of S. Antonio and is described as the most beautiful shopping street in the Dolomites. Here holidaymakers and day visitors can shop in pretty boutiques or enjoy a piece of homemade cake in one of the many cafés in the village.
