It is one of the most famous villages of the classic low Po Valley, made rich by the presence of the Sanvitale family since the end of 1300, who left the most evident traces in the Rocca.Fontanellato is the toponym of Fontana lata or big fountain, because the village is located in the so-called Bassa Parmense 5 km from the via Emilia and between the rivers Taro and Stirone. Visiting Fontanellato gives tourists the possibility to taste the slow and quiet life of the plain, its artistic places and its exquisite cuisine. In 2004 it was awarded the recognition of cittàslow, on the basis of indicators such as urban quality, infrastructure, hospitality, enhancement of typical products and food and wine.
