The Parmigiano Reggiano Museum has been built inside a nineteenth-century agricultural court belonging to the Meli-Lupi di Soragna castle. The tollbooth, with a circular plan, was built in 1848 by Casimiro Meli-Lupi. Enlarged in 1963 with the construction of two new rooms used as a milk chamber and a salting room, it remained active until 1977.
The exhibition includes material collected in the Parmigiano-Reggiano production area which includes five provinces: Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Bologna west of the Rhine and Mantua south of the Po.
The objects originate between the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century.
