The Provincial Museum Sigismondo Castromediano is the archaeological museum of Lecce, as well as the oldest in Puglia. A stop here is therefore a must to better understand the history of this region. Rich in ancient finds from all over Salento, it has the most complete collection of Attic vases with red figures, Messapian ceramics, vases and finally statues from the imperial age, coming from the amphitheatre. In the museum there is also a remarkable collection of paintings, which are arranged in the two rooms, medieval and baroque, while another room is dedicated to the preservation and protection of paintings and sculptures by artists of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, working in Salento.
