The Church of Santa Teresa the papier-mâché statue

Walking along via Libertini, on the right, stands the Church of the Barefoot Carmelites, never completed (now dedicated to Santa Teresa), which houses on the front door the largest papier-mâché statue in Lecce. Today it is one of the few remaining examples because the bishop of Otranto forbade the use of papier-mâché as it was made from unclean and coloured material such as newspapers.
