A monument of a different kind is the giant ficus magnoloides, the largest tree in the city: entering the historic centre from Porta Rudiae and turning right at the first crossroad, follow the road for a few dozen metres and you can admire the ficus inside the enclosure of the former conservatory of Sant’Anna. The monumental tree, owned by the municipality, is about 18 metres high with a circumference of 800 cm and is between four hundred and five hundred years old, characterised by the numerous veins in its trunk which is twisted to an incredible extent.
