Monastery of Santa Chiara in Casalmaggiore

he Monastery of Santa Chiara in Casalmaggiore, in the province of Cremona, stands near the Cathedral and was founded in 1504 and enlarged during the 18th century. It was one of the richest and most important monastic complexes in Lombardy, while today it is deconsecrated and is the seat of the Santa Chiara foundation. On the occasion of the International Music Festival it hosts masterclasses and concerts by musicians, especially international ones. The public church, consecrated in 1531, shows outside its octagonal profile with double gallery. A rectangular communicating body with barrel vaults that forms the monastic church is annexed to the body of this building. Inside this last church you can admire interesting frescoes belonging to chronologically distinct cycles and which are partly superimposed.
