Sabbioneta: Column of Minerva

In the centre of Piazza d’Armi stands the Colonna di Minerva, a monument of Botticino marble, created in the Brescia quarries around 1583. In 1584 the work was provided with a base and a bronze capital made by the sculptor Andrea Cavalli. The statue at the end of the column is a valuable archaeological piece purchased on the antique market by the Duke in 1773.
