The Teatro Domenico Cimarosa owes its name to the Aversano musician Domenico Cimarosa and is located in the alley of the Theatre. It was founded in 1889 as a wooden theatre in what is now Piazza Principe Amedeo. In 1924, the Honourable Giuseppe Romano (Peppuccio) had it built in tuff and reinforced concrete in the present location.
The façade has two orders of windows, the upper one with a Moorish arch, which adorn a bas-relief similar to the monument to Domenico Cimarosa placed in the square in front of the Railway Station of Francesco Jerace, with coats of arms and musical symbols. In Art Nouveau style, it has the shape of a horseshoe and is surmounted by a circular dome frescoed by Arnaldo De Lisio in the 1920s with allegories praising the illustrious Aversano musicians, Domenico Cimarosa and Niccolò Jommelli, and decorations by Antonio Giametta.
The structure also serves as a cinema, offering theatrical and musical performances, political conferences and socio-cultural initiatives.
