The Abbey of Santa Maria di Cadossa is a Benedictine monastic complex located in Montesano sulla Marcellana of medieval origin. It was finally suppressed in 1866. Built between the tenth and eleventh century, the complex in 1086 became a possession of the Benedictine Abbey of Cava de ‘Tirreni. At the beginning of the 13th century the mystic Cono, originally from Diano (today Teggiano), lived there and died at a young age. With the passing of time, in 1594 it became a possession of the Charterhouse of San Lorenzo in Padula.
Currently it is privately owned with a farm.
The abbey is the destination of the annual pilgrimage that the people of Teggiano and Montesano make to Cadossa on the first Sunday of August, thus keeping alive the secular devotion to S. Cono.
