At the end of the 13th century, outside the city walls, the Venetians built a town hall in Romanesque-Gothic style. The main facade was decorated with numerous wall coats of arms and slabs with inscriptions. At the end of the 19th century, the present town hall was built on Tartini Square. In the center of its facade stands an imposing stone lion with an open book, a reference to the Serenissima and the old town hall. On the first floor is the Domenico Tintoretto meeting room with the artist’s large painting "Mary with Child and the Fathers of the City of Piran".
