Built in 1894 on the site of the underground mandrač, Tartini Square has a large oval shape and a marble pavement. It is the main square in Piran and welcomes visitors at the end of the promenade. Surrounded by numerous important buildings, such as the Palace of Justice, the Church of St. Peter, the Venetian House, as well as numerous bars and restaurants, it is named after the Piran composer and violinist, Giuseppe Tartini (1692-1770), who is also remembered by the statue in the middle of the square. At night, the square is illuminated by lights and the entire town takes on a unique charm.
The so-called Venetian House is a palace situated at the edge of the scenic Piazza Tartini. The palace stands out on the square, also due to its characteristic balcony, which does not go unnoticed by those who head towards the old town of Piran. Legend has it that this house was built by a rich merchant as a gift to his beloved. On the house you can still read the inscription "Lassa pur dir" (Let them speak).
