The Palazzo delle Paure is one of the exhibition centers of the City of Lecco. It was erected in the heart of Lecco’s historical centre and enjoys a suggestive view of the Lungolario.
Its origins date back to 1905, when the need was felt for a building that would house the Intendenza di Finanza, a place where the people of Lecco went to pay their taxes, and for this reason it was called Palazzo delle Paure.
The building, which shows a medieval eclectic style, also incorporates an adjacent structure with its adjoining porch, dating back to 1902, which bears the signature of the architect Adriano Gazzarri. In 1926, a tower decorated with windows and three-mullioned windows was also built, inspired by the previous tower of the customs building, but taller than the old one. On the tower, and more precisely on the side that faces Piazza XX Settembre, a marble coat of arms was applied depicting the Visconti bisque, which is presumed to date back to the fourteenth century.
On the first floor of Palazzo delle Paure there are some temporary exhibitions, while the second floor houses the permanent collection of Contemporary Art from Villa Manzoni and the Graphics and Photography section. There are also works by various local artists such as Vitali, Secomandi, Stefanoni, Chiappori, Gasparini, and other decidedly contemporary Italian artists such as Castellani, Baj, Scanavino, Cavaliere, Rotella and Pomodoro.
