The ravioli of Valsassina

The ravioli of Valsassina are called "Scapinasc", the meaning of the word derives from the dialectal term "scapin" which would be a stocking, made with the four needles, of raw wool; "scapinasc" instead was a stocking-shoe that was made with a reinforced sole and was carried at home. When they prepared these ravioli, a few times a year to celebrate, they made them so big and ungainly that someone started to say: "… ah! L’è gros come scapinasc!" (They are as big as "Scapinasc")
