The Bell of the Fallen Maria Dolens

One hundred slow chimes that every evening echo through the mountains, on the Miravalle hill, in front of Rovereto and the Lagarina Valley: this is the sound of the Maria Dolens Bell for the Fallen, symbol of the end of the war and of peace rediscovered. Made in 1924 by casting the bronze of the cannons of the belligerent nations, since then it has spread its universal message of brotherhood. The history of the bell recalls that of Trentino itself, a borderland long disputed, which has left behind the rubble of the past becoming a dynamic laboratory of coexistence and dialogue, but without ever renouncing the duty of memory. With a height of 3.36 metres and a diameter of 3.21 metres, it is the largest bell in the world to ring out, and the fourth largest in terms of weight (over 226 quintals). Tribunes have been placed around it to host commemorations. .
