The castle of Drena rises on a hill that dominates and overlooks the small village of Drena in the Cavedine Valley with its imposing bulk. At the foot of the castle lies the picturesque Marocche desert, the result of a particular glacial phenomenon that has led to the formation of an expanse of boulders of 187 million cubic meters. Its particular strategic position, which made it an important means of controlling the road between Trento and Lake Garda, made it the object of contention throughout the Medieval period.
