Satrian: the city of murals

An ancient medieval city initially baptized as Pietrafixa, then took the name of Satrian to strengthen the historical link with the city of the same name in Basilicata, whose ruins lie not far away. The name Citta dei Murales is no coincidence: a small village, but one that can boast more than four hundred works of street art, increasing every year. The artistic soul of the city can also be found much further down in history; the city is the birthplace of Giovanni de Gregorio, known as Pietrafesa, an artist of the Neapolitan school; his works are scattered throughout the various churches in the region; one of these is preserved in Satriano: a fresco he painted for the Church of San Giovanni, which can be admired coming out of the city centre.
