The monumental complex of San Vitaliano rises at the foot of the village of Casertavecchia. A simple and austere style typical of medieval times.
Quoted in the Bull of 1113 of Archbishop Sennete, metropolitan of Capua, the Hermitage, according to tradition, was built by San Vitaliano (born in Capua in the eighth century) during his hermitage in Miliarum (or Maltanum), a town in the territory of Caserta, where he lived a few years performing miracles.
The structure, dating back to a period subsequent to the eighth century, has been altered several times and, therefore, the authenticity of the origins is altered.
Interesting is the bell tower that, with its sober style, gives elegance to the complex.
