Surrounded by green olive groves, Bagaladi is located on a hill at the foot of Mount Sant’Angelo, about 450 meters above sea level, and is one of the two gates to the Aspromonte National Park.
Local historians suggest that the centre was founded after the 10th century, in consideration of the fact that the territory of Bagaladi, Valle Tuccio, hosted, according to historical sources, numerous Basilian monasteries: the Abbey of San Teodoro near the present inhabited centre; the Monastery of S. Angelo and those of S. Fantino and S. Michele.
The village lies at the foot of Monte Sant’Angelo, so called because of the existence of the Monastery of San Michele Arcangelo, the Archistratega. In the XI century the monastic centre, also called ta Kampa "i Campi", was so important to boast the title of archimandrite.
