A few steps from the city of Rome there is a place with a fairy-tale appearance, we are talking about the Monte Gelato waterfalls, a natural treasure between the eternal city and Viterbo.
The waterfalls of Monte Gelato are located within the protected area of the Treja Valley Regional Park and are an example of how generous nature has been in this corner of the planet.
The area of the park covers more than 650 hectares of lush vegetation and beautiful landscapes crossed by the waters of the river Treja. The Treja river has its source in the Sabatini Mountains and winds its way through an area of great natural interest until it flows into the Tiber.
Just near Mount Gelato, the Treja river composes its most beautiful views, showing off some of the jumps that form the striking natural waterfalls. The waterfalls of Monte Gelato preserve traces of many settlements, in fact here there are the remains of a Roman villa of the first century BC and a watermill built in the nineteenth century and remained active until the sixties. The mill or mola, was built at the behest of the Del Drago family who also owned the medieval estate located at the waterfalls of Monte Gelato.
