Lake Toblino is located at 245 m above sea level, about 15 km west of Trento at the end of the Sarca Valley, which is also called "Valle dei Laghi" (Valley of the Lakes) because of the abundance of lakes. The lake was formed through erosion and the material that the Sarca river transported downstream. Nowadays the inflow of glacier water makes the lake water less transparent.
Lake Toblino thanks to its unique position in the middle of green hills, woods, vineyards and cypress avenues is considered, not wrongly, one of the most romantic lakes in Trentino.
The mild climate around the lake especially favors the Mediterranean vegetation – lemon, olive, rosemary and laurel plants thrive in this exceptional climate. Thanks to the protected area around the lake, also many water birds and fish species find here their natural habitat.
On a small island of the lake stands the romantic Toblino Castle, built in the twelfth century and considered one of the most remarkable castles of Trentino thanks to its unique position. In the 16th century this castle was transformed into a summer residence by the princely bishop Madruzzo. Today, Toblino Castle houses a renowned restaurant and is accessible exclusively to guests. Treat yourself to a coffee on the castle terrace and enjoy the fantastic view of the lake.
