The Regina Pinewood is part of the Ionic Arch Pinewoods, a series of pinewoods that identify a protected natural area that extends and includes the territories of the municipalities of Ginosa, Castellaneta, Palagiano, Massafra and Taranto.
They are mainly characterized by Aleppo pine forests, a dominant habitat, with the formation of Mediterranean vegetation on a sandy dune.
The plant biodiversity we may come across is very varied and includes: Aleppo pine and domestic pine, juniper, myrtle, mastic, the common, alaterno, rosemary, stingray, salt acacia and much more.
Also the characteristic fauna that we could meet along the paths, is manifold: wild boars, earth turtles, foxes, country lizards, badgers, hedgehogs, vipers, white snakes and brains. The present avifauna includes species such as the owl, the tawny owl and the queen’s falcon.
