Among the buildings in neo-Renaissance and Art Nouveau style that flank Via Filangieri and Via dei Mille, very interesting, for the beautiful internal staircase, is Palazzo Mannajuolo (Via Filangieri n. 36). The palace was built between 1909 and 1911.
The structure is influenced by modernist experiences and by the choice to use a local language, such as the adoption of neo-Baroque architecture in 17th and 18th century Neapolitan architecture. In particular, the latter choice is manifested in the scenographic setting of the building, which stands at the end of Via dei Mille.
The composition is set on the central part of ellipsoidal matrix, characterized by the play of full and empty spaces and the presence of large windows; in the central part of the building is housed the main staircase still ellipsoidal, in cantilevered marble and with wrought iron balustrade.
In 2017 some scenes from the film Napoli velata by director Ferzan Özpetek were shot there.
