Matera: Crypt of Original Sin

Crypt of Original Sin Not far from Matera is one of the most evocative places in Southern Italy: the Crypt of Original Sin. In a rocky cavity overlooking the cliff some scenes from the Old and New Testament were painted in a cycle of frescoes dating back to the 9th century AD. The cave was also used, in not too remote times, as a shelter for flocks.
