And it is in this place "full of riches", in the quiet village of Trocchia that, between 1828 and 1830, Gaetano Donizetti was a guest of Ferdinando Capece Minutolo, Duke of S. Valentino and Marquis Giuseppe Cavalcanti, owner of the estate la Vigna, which was sold to the Caracciolo counts in 1857. And it was here that the musician from Bergamo, starting from the ancient village, used to take long walks along a path leading to that farm and sit on a boulder of lava stone, in the shade of a majestic olive tree, where a commemorative marble plaque was placed in 1911. And it was here that, as seems to be demonstrated by correspondence and correspondence with Cavalcanti and Capece Minutolo, he drew inspiration and composed pages of Lucia di Lammermoor and Elisir d’Amore by rehearsing them and playing them on two large pipe organs dating back to the 16th century in the church of Santissima Annunziata. Both still exist today, but in need of important restoration work. The tombstone cannot be visited since the access path has fallen into complete disuse over time; the entire area should be enhanced for its environmental and landscape qualities.
