Tellaro is a small fishing village, perched on a cliff on the east coast of the Gulf of La Spezia in Liguria, northern Italy. It has been rated as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Its origins, probably associated with the depopulation of the old hilltop village of Barbazzano, seem to date back to the mid-fourteenth century. It retains its typical Ligurian structure characterized by narrow streets and tall, narrow houses overlooking the sea, leaning one against the other.
Here there is also the beautiful pastel-pink church of St. George, dating from the sixteenth century and built right on the rocks, almost riding the waves.
But no words better, describe the magic of the tiny hamlet of Tellaro, than the verses of Mario Soldati the famous italian poet who retired here to live the last years of his life.
“A nirvana between sea and sky, between the rocks and the green mountain”.
