The Devil’s Golf Course is one of the most interesting areas from a geological point of view and the most fascinating of the entire Death Valley park.
Once upon a time there was a lake here, but the waters gradually receded and then disappeared; what remained in their place was a vast expanse of curious formations of salt crystals. Here, it is claimed "only the devil would be capable of playing golf".
Located within the Badwater Basin, the area is slightly higher than the lowest point in Badwater, so the salt marsh remains dry, allowing wind and weather to carry the mineral deposits in jagged shapes.
