The Badwater Basin is one of the most famous areas not only in the park, but in all of North America. In fact, this is the place where the lowest point of all the northern United States is located: 85 meters below sea level!
But where does the name "badwater" come from? This particular area of the park has earned its name because of the presence of a particularly salty lake, located about 28 kilometers south of Furnace Creek.
In the warmer months, when the water evaporates, honeycomb-like salt formations remain on the ground.
