The Church of St. Francis was built at the end of the XIII century on the ancient oratory dedicated to St. John the Baptist, it rises on the highest place of the city, where surely there was a Roman temple. The façade, in the shape of a hut, is adorned with an elegant polystyle portal with capitals in marble.
The interior, with a single nave, was completely renovated in the 18th century; there are paintings by Dono Doni and Ascensidonio Spacca. A small door on the right leads to an internal chapel with frescoes dating back to the 16th century.
Next to the altar, in a chapel, there is a stone on which Saint Francis is said to have placed his feet when he preached to the birds in Piandarca. The second chapel on the right, perhaps the work of Galeazzo Alessi, has a beautiful tabernacle from the 15th century; the small dome is adorned with glazed terracotta attributed to Santi Buglioni.
