The Franciscan Protoconvent houses, in addition to the Civic Archaeological Museum, also the picture gallery dedicated to the local artist Andrea Alfano (1879-1967), author of poems and exceptional painter. The Art Gallery collects more than 300 works including paintings, drawings and sculptures, from the artist’s first works at the end of the 19th century to the last paintings of the mid 20th century. Alfano left the paintings originally exhibited in his studio to his hometown with a testamentary deed. The other 134 works come from the donations of Alfano’s widow, while others were purchased by the Municipality. Among the most important works are the Self-portrait and The Mother of the Fallen.
