The Ardo torrent springs at the foot of Mount Schiara, in the heart of the National Park, and flows into the Piave river in Belluno. Along its course there are spectacular gorges, very interesting from a naturalistic point of view. The gorges of the torrent Ardo are highly spectacular environments. Among the most important rocky gorges are the one in Corontola, near Bolzano Bellunese, that of the "Pont de la Mortis", which can be easily observed from the bridge of the same name, and the hanging gorge of the "Bus del Buson", no longer crossed by water, which can be reached on foot from Case Bortot. In fact, Pont de la Mortìs (514 m above sea level) overlooks an impressive canyon of fluvial origin dug into the rocky formation known as the "scaglia rossa" (red scale), dating back to the Tertiary period, the Paleogene and Paleocene epochs (the epoch preceding the formation of the Belluno flysch), estimated at about 65 million years ago.
