The Provincial Wine Museum is located in the oldest wine region in the German-speaking area. Inaugurated in 1955 at Ringberg Castle, above Lake Kaltern, it is the oldest Italian museum dedicated to viticulture. Today the museum is located in the centre of the wine village of Caldaro, only 15 km from Bolzano, in what used to be the Di Pauli wine cellar. A remarkable cross vault dating back to 1693 in the room that used to house the wine press, pointed arched stone doors and an underground wine cellar give the building a special atmosphere. The exhibition presents evidence of a centuries-old cultural history.
