The apple strudel (Apfelstrudel) is a classic dessert typical of the South Tyrolean tradition made with a very thin rolled dough (hence the name strudel which means "vortex") that wraps a filling of apples, raisins and pine nuts flavored with cinnamon. A very fragrant and delicious dessert that has an ancient history. Think that the strudel seems to be a variation of the ancient "Bakalava", a rolled up Turkish dessert made with phillo dough. Following the conquests of the Turks, the cake arrived in Hungary in the 17th century, where it was transformed by the Hungarians into "strudel" with the introduction of apples in the roll! Soon it spread to Austria and with the Austrian domination in Italy, the strudel arrived in Trentino Alto Adige where it reached the maximum success, also thanks to the renowned cultivations of apples typical of the territory, the main ingredient of the rolled cake.
