Calambrone: the Pisan harbour

Along the Pisan coast, halfway between Tirrenia and Livorno lies Calambrone, which at the time of the Maritime Republic was to all intents and purposes the Pisan Port, i.e. the great maritime port of call of the powerful city. After centuries of relative abandonment, it was in the 1930’s that Calambrone was founded in the 1930’s with the founding of a real urban nucleus. In fact, the numerous summer colonies in Art Nouveau and Modernist style still characterize the urban and architectural structure of the town, which can be recognized by the landscape marked by the characteristic sand dunes of this stretch of coast. The pinewood of Tombolo, which extends just behind the town and is included in the Natural Park of San Rossore, offers a unique spectacle and the possibility of wonderful walks. Calambrone, thanks to its particular exposure to winds and currents, is also a well-known meeting point for sailing and windsurfing enthusiasts.
