Bergamo is definitely a city worth a visit, but not just any visit. Because the city hides surprises and culture all to be discovered. Le Corbusier, when he arrived in Piazza Vecchia, in the heart of the Upper Town, was ecstatic. He said: "You can’t touch even a stone anymore, it would be a crime".
To reach the Upper Town you can take advantage of the funicular that passes through the ancient Venetian Walls, since 2017 a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Among the narrow streets of the old town are hidden extraordinary green oases: the Lorenzo Rota Botanical Garden contains about 1,200 types of plants and a beautiful view of the roofs. For art lovers there are unmissable stops, starting from the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore where you can admire the Tarsie del Lotto.
There is the Lower Town, more modern, and the Upper Town, with its medieval walls and ancient houses. Both faces of Bergamo have charm and history, they are enhanced in their contrast.
