The Salerno Maritime Station, inaugurated in 2016, is among the most important works of the famous archistar Zaha Hadid. Its structure is reminiscent of an oyster with a robust outer shell that hides fluid and light elements inside. For its construction, materials such as glass, steel and ceramics were used. The Salerno Maritime Station is completely transforming the city’s waterfront with a building projected towards the sea and suspended towards the sky. In Zaha Hadid’s architecture, the massive concrete structure becomes a light, mouldable material, characterised by soft lines and a system of ramps floating in the void.
Located at Molo Manfredi between the commercial port and the seafront of the city of Salerno, it has a surface area of 4500 m2 on two levels with administrative offices, a terminal for ferries and cruise ships, a ticket office and a waiting room.
