The Valcalepio is a hilly foothill area located in the eastern part of the Province of Bergamo and south of Lake Iseo, between the river Cherio and the river Oglio. This hilly area is made up of 9 municipalities.
This young D.O.C. wine from Bergamo is dedicated to Bartolomeo Colleoni, a legendary character born in Solza near the river Adda at the end of the 15th century.
The "Valcalepio" controlled designation of origin is reserved for wines that meet the conditions and requirements established by the production regulations for the following types: White Red, also Riserva Moscato Passito
The environmental and cultivation conditions of the vineyards destined for the production of "Valcalepio" DOC wines must be the traditional conditions of the area and, in any case, suitable for giving the grapes and wines derived from them their specific quality characteristics. Suitable soils are therefore considered to be those which lie at the foot of hills and on hillsides with good exposure, and which are predominantly silicon-clayey in nature. Excluded are soils with northern exposure, valley floors, humid soils, as well as those at altitudes higher than 500 meters above sea level for Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and 600 meters above sea level for Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco and Pinot Grigio grapes.
