The historic centre of Olomouc is defined as the largest historically well-preserved area outside Prague, thanks to the numerous squares adorned with beautiful Baroque fountains and pedestrian shopping streets. On the main square there is one of the most important buildings in the city, the Town Hall, which stands out for its Renaissance-style portal but above all for the astronomical clock located at the foot of the tower. Every day at 12 o’clock the curious carillon goes into operation, with a parade of workers in memory of the communist regime that exalted the proletariat, accompanied by the notes of a trumpeter. On the square there is also the Column of the Plague, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
