Very different from the other Aeolian islands, Salina is located in the central part of the archipelago along with Lipari and Vulcano and is the second largest. Divided into three municipalities, Santa Marina to the south, the island’s main port, Malfa to the north and Leni to the southwest, immersed in nature, Salina is a verdant island much loved by families and couples thanks to its tranquility. Very nice also the villages of Lingua, Pollara and Rinella. Among the famous beaches of Salina is the black beach of Rinella, the second port of the island, surmounted by caves carved into the rock, the bay of Pollara, inside an ancient crater largely collapsed Fossa delle Felci and Monte Porri are the two of the 6 extinct volcanoes on the island, separated by the plateau of Valdichiesa, now protected by a nature reserve. The brackish lake that juts out towards Lipari, in the south-eastern part of the island, from which salt was once extracted, gives its name to Salina. In Salina excellent wines are produced, not to be missed the malvasia, sweet and aromatic, and quality capers.
