In Tafilalt in the southeast part of the country, also written Tafilet of Tafilalet.
This oasis consists of the strongholds of Erfoud, Arab Sebbah du Ziz, Rissani, Seffalat, Aoufous, and Jorf, together with the palm trees that extend across the Wadi Ziz, which stretch for 30 miles (50 km).
It was established in AD 757 in Sijilmassa in the Sahari Caravan Road from the Niger River to Tangier.
The Amazigh fortress (Berber) was its traditional capital. Rissani, the only designed oasis town, had been built next to the ruins of Sijilmassa. Tafilalt is labeled for the dates it sells the bulk of.
It has tanning and handicraft factories and Erfoud at the foot of Mount Erfoud, its main commercial hub.
