Survived storms and hurricanes. After more than three hundred springs – and some even say five hundred! -, the giant ceiba tree of Vieques, a small island off Puerto Rico, has bloomed again. After the last cataclysms, everyone thought that it would never recover again. To protect it, the Ceiba Tree Park, a 51-acre coastal park, was established. Its flowering is an event considered a good omen for the whole island, just like a visit to the tree, seen as a good luck charm. In Mayan culture, ceiba trees are a sacred species while the natives of Puerto Rico see the tree as the son of a goddess. In short, a very special tree, which over the years has become a real tourist attraction that year after year continues to surprise.
