The Monastery of San Salvatore was founded after 760 by Queen Ansa, wife of Desiderio, the last king of the Longobards, and was part of a small female monastic complex. What can now be seen of the building is the back wall of the apse area, which can be seen from the public gardens, between the nursery school and the elementary school of Sirmione.
You can still see the three semicircular apses, with the central one larger than the remaining two, and a short stretch of the longitudinal walls at foundation level.
