If you feel primitive, a little like the Flintstones let’s say, and are looking for a beach that is still barren, without any services, the cala of Portu S’Illixi is right for you. If your ideal place is quiet and secluded, you’ve nailed it. Of course, it is not recommended to arrive with a stone car driven by your own legs, because the road to reach it is impervious and would absorb all your energy. From Costa Rei, take provincial road 97 and follow the signs for Capo Ferrato, promontory of volcanic origin, go straight on the dirt road and, just before you get to Feraxi, leave the car and walk along the path on the right leading to the beach. The coves (yes, there are two, separated by a large rock formation of red granite that advances into the sea) are small, the sand is of rather large grains and packed with pebbles and small shells. Come shortly before dawn and dive into the emerald green water as the sun rises, then, equipped with mask and snorkel, go and explore the small ravines hidden under the big cliff to the left of the beach.
