With a jump of more than 200 meters the waterfalls of Rio Verde are at the top of the ranking of the highest in the Apennines, second in Italy (the record is held by the Stroppia Falls, in the province of Cuneo) and among the highest in Europe. These waterfalls, surrounded by rich vegetation and fauna, are located in the middle of a protected area, a regional nature reserve called Rio Verde, close to Borrello in the province of Chieti, which is a 15-minute walk away. Borrello rises on a plateau at over 800 metres above sea level on the border of Molise.
