The ravine of Las Vacas has become a popular tourist attraction for residents and visitors to Gran Canaria, due to its unique rock formations called Tobas de Colores. These amazing formations bear a certain resemblance to the famous Antelope Canyon in the U.S.A. However, don’t expect anything extraordinary, it’s a small canyon created by water and wind inside what was probably once a river bed, but it’s still worth a visit to take some good photos.
There are two main entrances and they are located between km 14 and 15, the first one longer and easier (you go down in the valley and you arrive to the small tunnel from which then the canyon opens) the second one shorter, but also very steep both downhill and uphill.
It is necessary to leave the car parked at the side of the road, or in the only dirt recess on the side of the guardrail.
The point where to park the car can be recognized by the presence of a bridge, which in the lower part is made of stones, in the curve; once descended on foot you have to pass a tunnel to access the canyon.
The Barranco de Las Vacas is located in the municipality of Agüimes, but people often confuse it with Las Tobas de Colores.
If you really want to visit this spectacular geological canyon, it is located in the Barafonso Gorge. If you want to get to the Tobas by car, you will have to enter in Google maps "Tobas de Colores del Barranco de Las Vacas" or "camino para bajar a Las Tobas de Colores".
