Apulia, Apulia in Latin, Iapyghia, Ἰαπυγία in ancient Greek, is an Italian region of southern Italy with the capital Bari. Until the first half of the twentieth century the equivalent toponym was used to describe the region, declining in the plural, Puglie, still present in the toponymy of the area in Tavoliere delle Puglie and, until 1931 in Bari delle Puglie, the official name of the current administrative capital.
Apulia is the easternmost region of Italy: the easternmost place is Punta Palascìa (Otranto), 72 kilometres from Capo Linguetta, the northernmost tip of the Karaburun Peninsula, in Albania, and 80 kilometres from the Greek island of Fanò.
Puglia is a wonderful land with its great artistic, cultural and natural heritage. There are many jewels that embellish this Italian region bathed by two seas, some of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The beautiful itinerary that I propose touches the coast of Bari with Trani and Polignano a Mare, enters the Murge plateau to visit Castel del Monte and Bitonto, discovers the Itria Valley with Alberobello, the Caves of Castellana, Martina Franca, Ostuni and the Marine Protected Area of Torre Guaceto, reaches its peak in Salento Lecce with Lecce, Otranto, Galatina and Gallipoli.
