With its 3,069 meters high, the Presena Glacier is a paradise for all lovers of nature, history and mountain sports. Situated on the border between Val di Sole and Valle Camonica, therefore between Trentino and Lombardy, the glacier is part of the Presanella mountain group.
It was the border between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire during the First World War, and the glacier and its stony slopes still preserve the memory of the war clashes. In times of peace, the snow-covered slopes of the mountain have become a popular destination for skiers. The valley station of the Paradiso cable car is located at Passo Tonale and reaches the Tonale Pass at an altitude of 2,585 m in just 5 minutes; here you can refresh yourself at the Rifugio Paradiso and enjoy the adrenaline-filled and legendary Paradiso black slope.
Those who want to go all the way to the top of the glacier can take the Presena Gondola: thanks to its closed 8-seater cabins, this lift opened in 2016 can carry up to 1,500 people per hour and is equipped with modern external ski racks.
The first section ends at an altitude of 2,730 metres near the famous Presena Hut; continuing the ascent it is possible to reach the top of the glacier at 3,000 metres with a total ascent of just 7 minutes!
Passo Tonale is also connected to Ponte di Legno by the Ponte di Legno – Colonia Vigili – Tonale lift: starting from Ponte di Legno you will reach the top of the glacier in 26 minutes!
