The ‘Marrone’ (chestnut) differs from the more common chestnut not only in size but also in the characteristic brown streaks clearly visible on the surface, its poor resistance to peeling and the very limited development and penetration of the film inside the fruit. The chestnut woods of the Pellice Valley, located in the foothills and mountains between 500 and 1,000 metres above sea level, are found in the municipalities of Bobbio Pellice, Villar Pellice, Torre Pellice, Luserna S. Giovanni and Lusernetta in the province of Turin.
