Pautasso Collection
In 1989 Mrs. Mariuccia Ratti donated part of the numismatic collection of her husband Andrea Pautasso, who died in 1985, to the Autonomous Region of Valle d’Aosta with the commitment of the latter to set up a permanent numismatic exhibition at the Archaeological Museum of Aosta dedicated to highlighting the figure of the talented Piedmontese scholar.
At present there are twenty-one showcases for a total of 720 coins divided into four showcases of 84 Celtic coins from Gaul and Eastern Europe, seven showcases of 292 pre-Roman coins from northern Italy, minted from the third to the first century BC, a showcase of 27 Greek coins, one of 24 melted Italic coins, two of 89 Imperial Roman, two of 42 Byzantine, two of 80 medieval and two of 82 Savoy. The latter are not part of the donation but derive from a series of 621 coins sold to the Regional Administration by Pautasso’s sister, Mrs Teresa in Musso, in December 1989.
