The Österberg Tower is visible from afar on the top of the Österberg . The Österberg Tower is a viewing and transmission tower on the Österberg ( 437.9 m above sea level ) inaugurated on July 3, 1891 as the Kaiser Wilhelm Tower in the Baden-Württemberg town of Tübingen in the district of Tübingen. With its antenna support, it is 40 m high.
The tower stands a little southwest of the summit of the Österberg, east of the old and inner city of Tübingen, at a height of about 431 m .
In 1963, the city of Tübingen leased the Österberg Tower to the Deutsche Bundespost, which built a television converter on it. To do this, the top of the tower was removed and replaced by an antenna mount. Due to the increasing number of mobile phone antennas and the resulting lack of space, the tower was closed to the public at the end of the 1990s and since then it can only be visited on request.
